On Sunday I opened the fridge and said "WHAT?" "What do you want from me all you leftovers?" The answer came to me in the form of left-over mashed potatoes. Isn't it obvious? What better thing to do with left over mashed potatoes than to make gnocchi! It was SO easy. I also took green beans, and grape tomatoes, and garlic, and shallots, and calamata olives, and some fresh Tarragon, and created a roasted veggie dish to go with my herbed-butter tossed gnocchi! It was ALL easy and delish, and a great pairing for a Syrah... yes, I said that correctly - a Syrah!

Gnocchi with slow roasted Tomatoes and Green Beans |
I chose this Syrah (
2009 Estate Syrah from Buttonwood) because it is relatively young and the gnocchi neutralized much of the young tannin and acid, allowing the fruit to shine. The roasted nature of the veggies helped accent the nuanced earth notes in this wine... actually brought it more front and center, including a touch of anise, and some currants. I love myself some good Earth in my Syrah, and this wine paired dish did not disappoint!
