Every year the French release a fun red wine called Beaujolais Nouveau. This wine is ALWAYS released on the third weekend in November and is considered a bell-weather of that year's harvest quality. The grape used is Gamay. The wine is fermented and then bottled with no oak aging. This creates a red wine that is light, fruity and considered a celebratory wine.
Because of its release date, it is usually considered the Thanksgiving wine in the U.S. and because it is light, fresh and fruity it is a great wine for holiday meals that confuse the palate with savory, sweet, cold, hot, etc. - you could say it's the every-dish holiday pairing wine!
I've posted this video about this wine and about a Nouveau style wine made in Southern California - it's a fun story about one of my favorite wineries... HOPE YOU ENJOY IT, and gain some new wine knowledge in the process...
