Wedesday Humpday... TOSCANA STYLE!

Not only is today humpday, but it's the first day of a new month! February ALREADY??? So to celebrate humpday and the first day of February... I suggest you go easy with a good bottle of Italian wine...
Il Ducale - Sangiovese!!!
I've been talking a lot about Italian wines lately, mainly because I LOVE THEM! I've posted about the Barolo...
Barolo from Piedmonte
And I've uploaded a learning video-cast on Super Tuscans...
But today, I want to introduce you to a classic Sangiovese from Tuscany. This is "THE" grape of Tuscany, the grape used for Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino, and Super Tuscans.

So, I suggest you go easy on dinner, boil a pot of spaghetti, and dress it up with a good bottle of organic pasta sauce... Trader Joe's here we come! When I do this, I buy a decent jar of sauce and doctor it a tad... saute some extra garlic, add some mushrooms, maybe some red wine, and of course I alway finish it with Parmigiano-Reggiano!

You see, in Tuscany tomato bases sauces are king! And Sangiovese wines are bright with more acid than many other reds, and work will with the acidic nature of tomatoes. You can't go wrong with this combo - just ask any Italian!

The wine in the picture - Il Ducale is a Sangiovese. They could have called it Chianti (and some Ruffinos are), but because Chianti wines still struggle with their identity crisis of old, many wineries have options with proprietary names!

The winery - Ruffino, has been making Tuscan wines for 125 years, and is considered a very dependable quality driven winery. An added advantage is the wine is widely distributed in the U.S. It's a safe bet you can find it at a wine store near you.

So - to celebrate humpday, make that simple spaghetti and pull a cork on a nice Tuscan Sangiovese and say  awwwwww...
